FENI, Aug 22, 2024 (BSS) - The flood situation in Feni district has further worsened as several villages under Sadar, Sonagazi, Fulgazi, Daganbhuiyan, Parashuram and Chhagalnaiya upazilas have been flooded due to insistent rainfall and rise in the a water level of rivers, leaving over 3 lakh people marooned.
Mobile networks remain out of reach in most areas of the district and vast areas have plunged into darkness since two-thirds of electricity connections remain disconnected.
Delwar Hossain, a bank official living in Feni district town, said "One of my relatives with his nine family members has taken shelter on the rooftop of their house located in Ranirhat Malipur village under Sadar upazila."
"But the rooftop has already been flooded, leaving them stranded, so they need urgent help," he added.
Volunteers working in the district said they are trying to rescue and help stranded people as soon as they receive information about the flood-affected people.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Feni Musammat Shahina Akter told BSS that members from the Army, Coast Guard, BGB and other volunteers are working in flood-affected areas, including Parashuram, Fulgazi upazilas.
Army and Coast Guard members are carrying out rescue operations with engine boats.
The district administration has already supplied dry food among the flood-hit people.
Embankments in the Muhuri-Kahuya and Silonia rivers have been damaged due to the onrush of water from upper streams and continuous rainfall caused flooding in the district, triggering suffering for thousands of people.
