DHAKA, Aug 22, 2024 (BSS) - Leave was cancelled for the government officials working in the flood-affected areas under the Agriculture Ministry.
The officials were asked to stay in their respective workplaces and serve the farmers in the flood-hit areas, said a press release here this evening.
According to reports received till today, Aush crops on 68,209 hectares, Aman of 138,619 hectares and Bona Aman of 570 hectares were damaged in 12 districts in the country due to flood.
Besides, 12,910 hectare-seed bed of Ropa Aman, vegetables of 9,519 hectares, sugarcane on 384 hectares and betel leaves on 191 hectors were also damaged in the districts.
The Agriculture Ministry suggested the farmers to prepare seed beds for Ropa Aman on high land as well as floating seed beds after the flood situation improved.
It also recommended cultivating Ufshi varieties of paddy instead of local varieties and short-duration Ropa Aman as well as flood tolerant varieties of paddy.
The ministry also put emphasizes on cultivating vegetables on floating beds and urged the farmers to take suggestions from the upazila agriculture officer in this regard.
