DHAKA, Aug 25, 2024 (BSS) - A legal notice has been sent to publish and provide a list of the number of persons whose sentences have been remitted, suspended or commuted by the President from January 1991 to July 2024.

Copies of the notice were sent to Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Cabinet Secretary and the Secretary of the President's Office today with a request to provide the list within 15 days of receiving the notice.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Md Omar Faruk sent the notice stating that the people need to know the source of the President's power to pardon, or the process through which he does so under which law, or the criteria for pardoning.

The notice also mentioned that if the list of those exempted from punishment is not received within the specified time, a writ will be filed with the High court in this regard.
