Country’s law and order situation is improving gradually: Home Advisor

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2024 (BSS)-Home Advisor to the Interim government Lieutenant General (retd) M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that the country’s law and order situation has been improving gradually.

“Country’s law and order situation is gradually improving while the situation is now facing a little bit challenging as different issue-wise agitations are being continued by different professional groups”, he said.

The Advisor said this while France Ambassador in Bangladesh Marie Masdupuy called on him at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat here.

During the call on, discussion was also held on different aspects including existing law and order situation, police reforms and recovering of illegal arms.

In response to the concern over looted arms which took place at different police stations across the country in the wake of resignation of the previous government led by Sheikh Hasina, the home advisor said “the government will lunch special drive soon for recovering the illegal arms.

The advisor during the meeting mentioned on illegal and abuse of some licensed arms which were given during the regime of the previous government and necessary action will be taken in this regard.

On the query of reformation of the police department, General M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said the police forces usually have to face pressure during their duties as they have no adequate time for rest.

“We have taken decision in principally to revamp the police forces…but it remains in primary stage, he said. “Initiatives will be taken gradually to reform other forces under the home ministry apart from the police forces”, he added.

Senior officials of the Home Ministry and Deputy Head of Mission Guillaume AUDREN de KERDREL of the French Embassy in Dhaka, among others, were present at the meeting.
