DHAKA, Aug 25, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said religious harmony is a glorious tradition of Bangladesh, and since ancient times, Bangladeshis have never lost generosity, mutual goodwill and tolerance towards other religions.
In a message on the eve of Janmashtami, he said that "On the occasion of Happy Janmashtami, I extend my best wishes and greeting to the Hindu brothers and sisters. I wish them continued happiness, peace and prosperity".
Tarique Rahman said, "According to the Hindus, Janmashtami is the birthday of Shri Krishna, the avatar of Vishnu. Janmashtami is a religious festival celebrated with due dignity for ages. Any religious festival is universal, and it ties up people in bonds of unity and brotherhood transcending communal lines. It wakes up a unique solidarity within human society, and overwhelms everyone in a common sincerity."
He said that the essence of all religions is peace and human welfare. Throughout the ages, religious preachers have shown the path of truth and justice.
Mentioning that Lord Krishna appeared on earth at a time when society was under the terrible despotism of a tyrannical king, Tarique Rahman said that he suppressed the chaos and injustice and established justice, truth and welfare in the world, and gave peace and comfort to the virtuous and innocent people in the society.
He noted that the anti-public interest and inconsiderate autocracy has brought down the sword of torture on the people in the country to country.
Oppressed people will be inspired by the lesson of resistance against the oppressor by following the words and deeds of Krishna, he added.
The acting chairman of BNP also mentioned that people of all religions have been living here for ages in a bond of friendship and brotherhood, saying that BNP is strongly committed to keep that harmony intact.
On this auspicious day of Janmashtami, he once again extended his hearty greetings to everyone.
