TANGAIL, Aug 26, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed today said Sheikh Hasina must face trial.
"Sheikh Hasina is hatching conspiracy from Delhi after fleeing the country. It is not matter from what part of the world she is hatching conspiracy, her trial must be held in the court of Bangladesh or in the international courts. She must face trial," he said.
The BNP leader said this while addressing a street rally as the chief guest at Bhuapur upazila here after offering ziyarat at the grave of Shaheed Firoze Talukder Palash, who was shot dead in the anti-discrimination student-people movement.
He also inquired about wellbeing of the family of Palash.
BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku presided over the rally at the bus stand square of Bhuapur upazila while BNP National Executive Committee Member Obaidul Haque Nasir, Tangail district BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shaheen, General Secretary Farhad Iqbal, former Member Secretary Mahmudul Haque Chhanu and Bhuapur upazila BNP President Golam Mostafa were present, among others.
Salahuddin Ahmed said the country's judiciary should be reformed.
The demand of the martyrs in the anti-discrimination student movement was to establish a non-discrimination democratic Bangladesh and a non-communal independent sovereign state, where the rule of law will be equal and rights will be upheld, he said, adding, "We will establish the rule of law".
Pointing finger at those "who destroyed the judiciary", the BNP standing committee member said, "No one will be spared from trial. Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in the lower court and it was extended to ten years in the High Court".
"We want to establish a people-oriented judiciary. I will materialize the dreams of the martyrs in the movement," Salahuddin said, adding, no one will be allowed to play game with the country.
