Menon on 6-day remand over another murder case

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today granted a six-day remand for Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon in garments worker Rubel murder case, who was shot dead, during the Anti-Discrimination Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman granted the five-day remand upon a petition seeking 10 days remand in the murder case, in which ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader and cricketer Sakib Al Hasan, were made co-accused.

Rafiqul Islam, father of Rubel, filed the murder case with Adabar Police Station against identified 156 persons and 400-500 unidentified persons.

In the first information report, the plaintiff alleged that his son Ruble took part in the protest rally in Adabar Ring Road area on August 5. During the protest, someone fired gunshots at the rally at the directives, instigation, help and direct patron of the accused.

Rubel with bullet wounds in his chest and abdomen was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on August 7.

Investigation officer and inspector of Adabar Police Station Mintu Chandra Banik produced Menon before the court today upon completion of his five days remand in another murder case.

On August 24, Menon was placed on a five-day remand in a case filed over the death of 45-year-old trader Abdul Wadud in the city's New Market area during the movement on July 19.
