DHAKA, Aug 28, 2024 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has sought cooperation from the United States to reform the Bangladesh Police.

“The US is one of the development partners of Bangladesh. They are extending cooperation to Bangladesh’s different sectors. So, the US can play a pivotal role in the ongoing police reform by providing required assistances including training,” he added.

He made the remarks when the US Charge d'Affaires Helen LaFave held a meeting with him at his Secretariat office here today.

LaFave highly praised the intelligence agencies of Bangladesh for their role in maintaining security of the American Embassy and elsewhere of the diplomatic enclave.

“But, it is a must to reform the intelligence agencies, including the police, as part of the welfare of the people,” the US Charge d'Affaires said.

Security aspects of Bangladesh, cooperation in agriculture sector and rehabilitation of the flood affected people alongside other issues prominently came up for the discussion.
