Flood situation improves in Lakshmipur

LAKSHMIPUR, Aug 29, 2024 (BSS) - Flood situations in the five upazilas of the district are improving as flood water started to recede from the affected areas.

But there are still seven lakh people in the district who are stranded by the flood waters. As many as 39,572 people have got shelter in shelter centres, said Deputy Commissioner Suraiya Jahan.

Many people are stationed at their houses as if dacoits could not loot their valuables.
 
Waterborne diseases are seen among the flood-affected people in Lakshmipur.

Engineer Nahid-Uz-Zaman of Lakshmipur Water Development Board said Meghna is flowing under the danger line and flood water is receding.

Different volunteer organisations have been distributing food among the flood victims with the help of local administration in the district for a few days. 789 metric tons of rice and dry food worth Taka 10 lakh have been distributed among flood victims in the district so far, said DC Suraiya Jahan.
