LGED repairs 51 km road, 96 culverts-bridges in flood-hit districts

DHAKA, August 29, 2024 (BSS) – The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has so far repaired 51 km road and 96 culverts/bridges affected by floods in the country’s south and south-eastern parts.  

According to LGED data, a total of 7,722 km of roads and 1,101 bridges/culverts have primarily been damaged by floods caused by recent heavy rains and landslides, said a press release today.

The Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) has distributed 148,909 litres of safe drinking water so far in the flood-hit areas.

The eight mobile water treatment plants – five in Feni, and one each in Moulvibazar, Noakhali and Cumilla supplied 1, 70,505 litres of water to flood-affected people, said the press release.

It said that dry food was distributed among 63,274 people in the flood-hit areas through various local government institutions under the local government division.

Besides, some 177,328 people have been rescued while food has been distributed to 134,320 people in shelters.

According to the information available today, some 38,34,000 water purification tablets have been distributed from local government division in 11 flood-hit districts.

Besides, 23,927 jerrycans were distributed alongside 4,137 hygiene kits with the help of UNICEF.

Flood situation has improved in Habiganj, Khagrachari, Feni, Chattogram, Rangamati and Brahmanbaria districts. However, flood situation has remained stable in Cumilla, Noakhali, Sunamganj, Laxmipur and Moulvibazar districts.
