DHAKA, Aug 31, 2024 (BSS)- The womenfolk are now not only busy with household cores, but also contributing to the family by earning money. Many of them continue to show the way of income to other young women and housewives.
The women of different parts of the country have created a revolution in e-commerce by availing the benefits of Digital Bangladesh.
People concerned said the global market system is now almost online based. It was proved further during the coronavirus pandemic. The buyers and sellers bought and sold goods online by staying home during that time.
Especially, the women entrepreneurs are now selling a big portion of their products to different e-commerce companies online instead of selling directly in the market. It ensures fare prices of their products on one hand, while reduces health risk in other. It can be said that it is a "silent revolution" in Digital Bangladesh.
After her graduation, Nice Aktar of Bogura started agricultural work with her husband Sazedur Rahman on 20 decimals land beside their home.
At first, Nice began papaya cultivation alongside poultry and cow rearing. She also continued sewing and making handicrafts which she taught from her mother and aunts.
At the beginning, she sold her goods in the local market through her husband. But she said she didn't get fare prices of her produces.
"I often got low prices as I was not aware of market price previously. But reality has changed. I don't need to send my husband to the market for selling our products. I myself contact the whole sellers online using smart phones," said the self-confident women entrepreneur Nice.
Not only Nice Aktar, Adamdighi's Mahmuda Aktar, Bhaluka's Asma Islam and Baby Rahman are also creating revolution in e-commerce.
Nice said online market platforms Parmida, Market Bangla, Daraz Bangladesh and Food for Nation are collecting agri products directly from them.
The women entrepreneurs said for the habit and confidence of selling products online that have been created during the corona time, the interest of others in smartphone and e-commerce has increased.
They said the number of internet and smart phone users among the rural farmers and women are surging day by day.
It was known that the government is providing various types of trainings to the entrepreneurs across the country. At the initiative of the ICT Division, various kinds of training on e-commerce and freelancing are being given.
Alongside the government, different non-government organizations (NGOs) including Action Aid are providing training to the women entrepreneurs across the country.
Nice Aktar, however, said some problems still exist. "We're rural people and we've not adequate knowledge in technology. But it's a potential field for our framers," she said.
Nice said the rural women will be more encouraged in producing agricultural products if the supply chain is made easy though online under the government and non-government initiatives. In this regard, she sought cooperation of the authorities concerned.
Ministry for Women and Children Affairs is imparting training on various trades for generating employment for the women.
"The womenfolk are not staying home now and they're developing as successful entrepreneurs. The females have created a revolution in e-commerce and small trade in Bangladesh by using information technology," said Mahmuda Aktar, an entrepreneur.
She said the women are contributing most to e-commerce and they're running 80 percent of the country's total online and e-commerce organisations. They've set an example of women empowerment in society," she added.
