DHAKA, Sept 1, 2024 (BSS)- Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami today filed a appeal to the Supreme Court to get back its registration with the Election Commission as a political party.
“Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has filed a petition to the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division for restoration of the appeal as it was ‘dismissed for default’ by the Supreme Court earlier, Jamaat’s lawyer Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir told the BSS today.
“If our appeal is allowed, we will get the registration back. We will get back the party symbol,” Advocate Shishir added saying then Jamaat-e-Isami will have no bar to take part in the national polls as a political party.
The party decision to file the revival of the petitions came days after the interim government in an executive order allowed Jamaat-e-Islami to carry on its activities.
The Election Commission earlier scrapped Jamaat’s registration while the erstwhile deposed government of Sheikh Hasina banned its activities on August 1, 2024.
