48.83 lakh water purification tablets distributed in 11 flood-hit districts

DHAKA, Sept 1, 2024 (BSS) - A total of 48.83 lakh water purification tablets have been distributed from Local Government Division (LGD) in 11 flood-affected districts, according to the information available as of today.

As many as 24,453 jerricans have been distributed alongside 4,869 hygiene kits with the help of UNICEF, a press release said.

According to the information received from the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), 7 800 kilometers (km) of roads and 1, 140 bridges and culverts have been primarily damaged due to the recent flood, heavy rains and landslides.

So far, LGED has repaired 65 km roads and 65 bridges and culverts.

Dry food has been distributed to 6,773 people in the flood affected areas today through various institutions under LGD.

A total of 1.77328 lakh people have been rescued and food has been distributed to 8, 439 people who are staying in shelters.

Besides, the Department of Public Health Engineering has distributed 2.46034 liters of safe drinking water so far through nine mobile water treatments (Feni five, Moulvibazar one, Noakhali one, Lakshmipur one and Cumilla one) across the country.
