Türkiye provides Mobile Clinic to flood hit areas

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2024 (BSS) - Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Turkish overseas aid body, has sent a mobile clinic vehicle to the flood-hit central, eastern and south-eastern parts of Bangladesh.

The mobile clinic has served nearly 6,000 people in a week, focusing on groups with difficult access to health services such as children, women and the elderly people, said a press release here today.

It performed health screening and medicine distribution at Ataturk Model High School in Feni city with volunteer doctors and health workers, and provided health services to flood-affected people in Feni and Noakhali districts for the past week.

Treatment and medication support was provided against skin diseases and water-borne diseases, which increased after the recession of water in flood-affected areas, as well as awareness-raising activities on disease prevention.

The clinic on wheels is planned to stay in the affected region for at least one more month to respond to epidemic disease risks and post-disaster trauma cases, said the release.

Earlier, the Türkiye's state-run agency delivered a total of 3000 emergency aid packages consisting of basic food items, water purification tablets and hygiene materials in Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur and Cumilla districts.

The distributions were carried out in cooperation with Bangladesh authorities, Fire Service and Civil Defence Department and local NGOs.

According to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, the total flood related death toll has risen to 67 so far and as many as 51,08,202 people were affected by the flood in 504 unions and municipalities under 68 upazilas in 11 districts in the country.
