Brig. Gen Sakhawat seeks Pakistani investment in textiles, jute sectors

DHAKA, Sept 3, 2024 (BSS)-Advisor for Jute and Textile and Shipping
Ministries Brigadier General (retd) Sakhawat Hossain today called the
Pakistani investors to come forward for investing in Bangladesh state owned
textiles and jute mills.

"Pakistani investors can come forward to invest in closed state owned
textiles and jute mills in Bangladesh ...the investors can invest in other
sectors including jute and textile", he said.

The advisor made this call when Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed
Ahmed Maroof made a courtesy call on him at his secretariat office here.

Commending local jute made golden bags, the Pakistani envoy expressed his
eagerness to invest in Bangladeshi jute and textile mills.

The Pakistani diplomat, however, also gave advance invitation to Bangladesh
for participating in Textile Expo in Pakistan, scheduled to be held in
October next.

Stressing on enhancing commercial relations between the two countries,
Textile and Jute Secretary M Abdur Rauf said the Pakistani traders can import
diversified jute goods from Bangladesh as more than 200 diversified jute
goods are being displayed at the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC)
under the ministry.

Besides, the Pakistani high commissioner also proposed launching direct
shipping transport between Pakistan and Bangladesh, saying "the system will
help to take forward the eco-social relations of the two countries".

To materialize the goal, he said, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and
Pakistan Shipping Corporation can jointly work to this end.
