DHAKA, Sept 05, 2024 (BSS) - The High Court (HC) today ordered the authorities concerned to allow reopening online news portal sheershanews.com and to give it registration.

A HC division bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Muhammad Mahbub Ul Islam passed the order, disposing of a rule issued earlier in this regard.

Advocate Md Tajul Islam moved the case for sheershanews.com editor Ekramul Haque, while deputy attorney general Redwan Ahmed Ranjib stood for the state.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in 2016 shut down the online news portal and cancelled its registration afterwards. 

Ekramul Haque filed a writ in 2022, challenging the government decision to revoke its registration. The High Court after that had issued the rule.
