DHAKA, Sept 5, 2024 (BSS) - Medical and health service has been given to around 30,000 flood victims through 108 medical camps being operated by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in five flood affected districts across the country.
"Five medical teams have been sent to five flood affected districts-- Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Cumilla and Khagrachari-- to ensure essential medical services to the affected people through making small groups," Tahmid Al Mudassir, coordinator of Anti Discrimination student movement, told a press briefing this evening at the office of Dhaka University Journalists Association.
Under the initiative of Anti Discrimination Student Movement, 108 medical camps have been formed later from the five medical teams that have been providing health service to the people along with giving medicine for free.
Besides, with the coordination of Dreamers Consultation and Research,
icddr,b and some other organizations, the platform has planned to establish a 200-bed field hospital in each flood affected district amid the looming epidemic of waterborne diseases in some of the affected areas including Feni and Noakhali, said Tahmid.
Field hospital has already been established at Feni's Mohipal, said another coordinator Torikul Islam, adding, "There will be some small group medical teams under each central hospital that will be providing medical aid to marginal areas and forward the serious patients to the central field hospital".
Regarding making a list of killed and injured people, the coordinator said it will take time to make the list accurate as a significant amount of data is missing due to reported irregularities in the hospitals including discharging patients or dead bodies without registration and certificates during the Awami League government.
Private hospitals are found more reluctant in providing patient's information, he said, adding, "Some injured deliberately take treatment without registration to avoid arrest or harassment".
Meanwhile, the platform also arranged two training workshops for doctors at TSC aimed at improving their skills, he added.
