DHAKA, Sept 6, 2024 (BSS) - Poet, Writer and Philosopher Farhad Mazhar today urged all to be united against fascism under the leadership of youths.
"Struggle against fascism has not finished yet. So we will have to remain alert," he told a poem recitation ceremony on the July Mass Uprising organized by Bangiya Sahitya Sabha at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in the city.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed gave welcome address.
Farhad Mazhar said the youths united the Bengali nation against Awami League regime and it should be upheld.
He demanded trial of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for carrying out killing and torturing the people.
He said if the national anthem is changed, it will create discord. The Indian government will tell that the fundamentalist government is formed in Bangladesh, he predicted.
A big power will have to be formed against Awami League and Jamaat, Farhad Mazhar added.
About the national elections, he said at first, the country needs reforms in many sectors.
Farhad Mazhar said he can not to speak in the last 20 years in favor of country and its people exercising his rightful rights.
BSS MD Mahbub Morshed said: "We have achieved the victory with the blood of a thousand martyrs. This unity must be maintained. We must not forget it."
"We had been waging the movement since two years ago through the Bangiya Sahitya Sabha with poets, writers and journalists demanding voting rights and freedom of expression from Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. The movement spread on the streets in various ways," he said.
"We have earned the victory through July mass-uprising", he said adding that many coordinators of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were with them.
Mahbub Morshed said many of the coordinators were with them when they waged movements before and after the January 7 national elections.
Bangiya Sahitya Sabha members Salah Uddin Shuvro, Ehsan Mahmood and Mridul Mahbub, among others, were present in the function.
Around 50 poets participated in the function.
