President for collective efforts to ensure quality education for all

DHAKA, Sept 7, 2024 (BSS) - President Mohammed Shahabuddin today put emphasis on collective efforts of government, local public representatives, non-government organizations and civil society members to ensure the quality education for all in the country.
 
"I call upon all the concerned, including the government, local public representatives, non-government organizations and civil society, to work together to ensure quality education for all," he said in message on the eve of the International Literacy Day.
 
In the message, the head of the state welcomed the observance in the country like elsewhere in the globe and wished all the programmes of the day a success.
 
Noting that education is one of the fundamental rights of people, the President said in order to build a knowledge-based developed nation, free and compulsory primary education as well as eradication of illiteracy was inserted in the country's constitution.
 
Considering the importance of education in building a nation, Shahabuddin urged all to come forward to ensure the formulation and implementation of multifaceted initiatives for the development of the education sector.
 
He put emphasis on making the education system enjoyable by taking different initiatives along with ensuring quality and inclusive education for all.
 
The head of the state said the literacy rate in the country has now increased to 77.9 percent while the number of primary schools has also increased.
 
He said the student enrolment and primary school completion rates have increased while school dropout rate has significantly decreased.
 
Apart from imparting appropriate education and training in classrooms, the President said, skill based literacy programmes for children and adolescents out-of-school are contributing to human resource development in the country.
 
To make education universal, he underscored the need for launching educational programmes in different languages.
 
The President said in the current context, this year's theme 'Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding and Peace' is time befitting one.
 
With the passage of time, Shahabuddin said a new dimension has been added to demand and methods of education.
 
In order to establish a discrimination-free modern Bangladesh, the president underscored the need for formulating mass-oriented education for all, creating opportunities for vocational education, developing entrepreneurship and job-oriented training programmes and providing literacy with information technology.
