DHAKA, Sept 08, 2024 (BSS) - A case was filed against 34 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over the killing of wall painter Babul Hawlader during the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Babul's widow Monowara Begum filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanom. The court, after recording statement of the complainant, asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter and submit a report.
The other prominent accused in the case are Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
According to the case documents, students and people brought out a procession in support of anti-discrimination movement on July 19 in front of Rampura Better Life Hospital in the capital. Around 3pm, police and Awami League goons started shooting at the protesters. As Babul tried to flee the scene for safety, he got shot.
Babul succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on July 28.
