Navy chief visits Khulna, Bhola districts

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2024 (BSS) – Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan has inspected the overall security, and law and order situation, protection of state infrastructures and operations of joint forces in Khulna and Bhola districts.

He visited Khulna and Bhola districts today as part of his countrywide visit to monitor the security, and law and order situation at the grassroots amid the current situation, said an Inter Services Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) press release here.

During his visit, the Navy chief exchanged views with the naval contingents, local administrations and law enforcement agencies.

At the views exchange meetings, Admiral M Nazmul Hassan expressed optimism in building a people-friendly and welfare state overcoming the prevailing situation with the collective efforts of all.

According to the release, Bangladesh Navy is providing necessary support to the local administrations and law enforcement agencies to maintain the law and order situation in concerned areas across the country.

With the support of Bangladesh Navy, police stations in the coastal areas have already started their normal activities while the Navy is providing protection and security to the police at different police stations, the release said.

Chattogram, Mongla and Payra ports have brought dynamism in their overall operations, in addition to strengthening their security.

Since the Chattogram, Mongla and Payra ports are considered as the gateway of the country’s import-export, it said, dynamism has been brought to their overall operations along with beefing up the security measures in the ports to keep the supply of daily essentials and trade normal in the country.

Besides, in order to keep the import and export normal, the release said, the Navy is ensuring the safe movement of domestic and foreign commercial ships in the ports and the security of the commercial ships anchored in the adjacent areas of the ports.

The Navy is operating patrols along the rivers to ensure continued fishing, it said, adding that the Navy is fully prepared to prevent any kind of sabotage in establishments associated with economy, supply chain and production in the country to ensure uninterrupted supply of goods.

The release said apart from rescue operations and relief activities in the flood affected areas, including Feni, Mirsharai of Chattogram and Paikgacha of Khulna, the Bangladesh Navy has also been providing medical services in different flood-affected areas.

It said naval contingents remained engaged in flood-affected areas to provide health services to flood victims and deal with outbreaks of various post-flood diseases.

The Navy is providing healthcare services to local people by setting up a 30-bed temporary 'Field Hospital' in Fulgazi Upazila of Feni and a mobile hospital at Paikgacha in Khulna.

As there was no expected response to the call for surrendering the looted arms and ammunition from police stations recently, a joint operation is being conducted across the country from September 4 under ‘In Aid to Civil Power’ to prevent the use of these illegal weapons in criminal activities, the release said.

As part of the joint operation, the naval contingents are carrying out patrolling and combing operations in coordination with the concerned law enforcement agencies in different important coastal areas, including Mongla, Barguna and Bhola, to contain anarchies and eliminate dacoits currently involved robbery across the country.

The press release said Bangladesh Navy is always ready to ensure congenial law and order situation across the country by thwarting all kinds of ill-efforts.

Noting that the country is going through a constructive transition, the release said the Navy chief urged everyone to come forward from their respective positions for the welfare of the country and the nation.

Admiral M Nazmul Hassan also urged all to refrain from anarchic activities in this period of state reform. He said any situation can be tackled with the help of mass media and local people.

Considering the overall situation of the country, the Navy chief said, Bangladesh Navy will remain engaged in the field to provide support to the civil administration as long as the government wants.
