None to be left behind to build discrimination-free CHT: CHT adviser 

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2024 (BSS) - Advisor to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Supradip Chakma today categorically said that none would be left behind to build a discrimination-free CHT as the incumbent interim government vowed to ensure good governance at all spheres of society.

“None to be left behind to build a discrimination-free Chittagong Hill Tracts. We will ensure good governance in the country under the leadership of Chief Adviser of the interim government ,” he told the representatives of the Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) at a meeting at his Bangladesh Secretariat office here today.

The adviser added, “We will work together to ensure economic, social and environmental needs of the present and future generations.”

Referring to keep the law and order situation normal in the hilly areas, Supradip Chakma urged all concerned to build civic unity against extortion and discrimination as a whole.

In this connection, he said all hilly and Bengali people should work together for the development of the country by nurturing non-communal thinking and maintaining religious harmony in the region.
 
The adviser said the provisions of equality will be kept intact between each ethnic groups like  Bengali people, Pankhwa, Marma, Khumi, Kheang, Bom, Chak, Mro, Tanchanga, Lusai, Tripura,  Chakma and others will be given equal opportunities in terms of employment opportunities. 

The advisor laid emphasis on developing livelihood of people in the three hill districts and also developing community based society.

Laying emphasis on increasing revenue income, Supadip Chakma urged all affluent people to pay taxes fixed by the authorities concerned for the greater national interest.

On water scarcity in hilly region, he said the flow of water in rivers, canals and streams will be ensured so that there is no shortage of water in the region and ensuring protection of environment.

“We all want to work together to improve the living standards of people in the hilly areas,” the CHT Adviser added.

During the meeting, Joint Secretary of CHT affairs ministry Kangkan Chakma, GOP member secretary Faruk Hasan, GOP council member Barrister Jisan Mohsin, Joint Convener Saqib Hossain, Joint Member Secretary Maulana Arif Billah, GOP student council Convener Molla Rahmatullah and Member Secretary Muntasir Mahmud, were present, among others.

Later, a 9-point proposal was handed over to the adviser on behalf of Gano Odhikar Parishad (GOP). The GOP leaders assured the adviser to provide all necessary cooperation in all development works of the Interim government.
