CHT adviser urges all to ensure transparency in every work

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2024 (BSS) - Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma today urged all concerned to ensure transparency and accountability in every work.

The adviser came up with the suggestion while speaking at a day-long workshop aimed at formulating short-term, medium-term and long-term development plans for the CHT ministry at the conference room of the Bangladesh Secretariat office here.

Citing an example of Jhum Cultivation with the works, he said, "If there is a fire during the Jhum Cultivation, everything around it will be burnt and abandoned . . . If you are negligent to your responsibilities, like Jhum Cultivation, you will also be abandoned."

Adviser Supradip also directed the officials concerned to reconstitute the recruitment committee in three hilly districts as per government rules and fix the organogram of Zilla Parishad and Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board.

He categorically directed all concerned to take and implement the government decisions as per the rules at the earliest.

Noting that prompt submission of work reports and monitoring system should be strengthened, the CHT adviser directed everyone to refrain from spending government money unnecessarily.

Different CHT issues, including proper implementation of existing projects and taking up new projects for environment conservation in short term, medium term and long term development planning were also discussed there.

With CHT Affairs Secretary AKM Shamimul Haque Siddique in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by Additional Secretaries-Md. Jahangir Alam, Aminul Islam and Pradeep Kumar Mohottam, Joint-Secretaries Sajal Kanti Bonik and Kangkon Chakma, Chittagong Hill Regional Council member KS Mong, Chief Executive Officer of Tribal Refugee Task Force Krishna Chandra Chakma and CHT Development Board Vice Chairman (Additional Charge) Jasim Uddin.
