DHAKA, Sept 10, 2024 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) cannot be used for political purpose.

"RAB cannot be used for political purpose. Since  inception of the elite force , it was stated that the force would not be used for political purpose. But later it was not maintained," he said.

The adviser gave this order in a discussion held at RAB headquarters in city's Uttara with participation of the  senior RAB officials, a press release said.

RAB got involved in various illegal and misdemeanours including disappearances,  murders and unlawful acts;  the moment the force has been  used for political intention , the adviser  said .

“ Eventually  it became   the  root concept of the people “, he added  .

The adviser said the lost glory and dignity of RAB can be restored through  love, behaviour and performance.

"That's why; RAB should work within the law. Illegal orders of superior authorities will be disobeyed. No one shall be detained without authorization and unlawfully.
 
RAB must stay away from crossfire, disappearances and murders," he said.

Director General of  RAB A K M Shahidur Rahman and high ranking officials  attended the meeting.
