DHAKA, Sept 11, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said his party is extending allout cooperation to the interim government to build afresh Bangladesh, as they believe that the incumbent government will be able to materialize the aspiration of the nation. 
 
"The current government will be able to fulfill the expectations of the nation. So, we are providing all-out support to the government and we will continue to do so in the days to come. We all in unison have to materialize the dream of building a new Bangladesh. It will not be possible to do it alone as it requires collective efforts from the entire nation," he said.
 
The senior leader of BNP expressed hope as a delegation from Australia led by its Acting High Commissioner in Bangladesh Nardia Simpson held a meeting with BNP's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office here. 
 
Coming out of the meeting that lasted for about one and a half hours from 12 noon, Khasru told the newsmen that they had discussed the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Australia alongside expansion of trade and business, investment and issues of mutual interest. 
 
"Apart from these, we also discussed what we are thinking after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government and what the interim government did in the last one month alongside the expectations of the countrymen," he continued. 
 
Khasru said during the meeting the delegation wanted to know about the time which is required for holding the next election and what changes will be necessary to bring reforms to the electoral system and how the reforms are taking place now. 
 
"The Australian delegation also realized that state power should be transferred to a democratic government through a free and fair election," he added. 
 
About the specific timeframe for the next election, the Senior BNP leader said, "We have been constantly talking about logical timeframe for holding the next election. The stakeholders will consider the rational time. We don't want to put any pressure on the interim government by fixing any specific timeframe for holding the election." 

Khasru said they want the government to do all their tasks successfully, adding that the electoral process will start formally with the formation of the new election commission (EC) as the earlier commission has already resigned.
 
"I am confident that they will complete these tasks very quickly by solving the country's institutional problems," he said. 
 
Member of the International Affairs Committee of the BNP Shama Obaid and deputy head of Australian High Commission to Dhaka Clinton Pobke, among others, were present.
