Covid-19 cases rapidly cross 25,500 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 29, 2021 (BSS) – The number of Covid-19 cases has rapidly crossed the 25,500 mark further deteriorating the situation in Rangpur division where 3,154 positive cases were reported during the last one week.   
 
Health officials said the number of Covid-19 cases stood at 22,353 till June 21 and quickly reached 25,507 on June 28 with the diagnosis of 3,154 new patients during the last seven days in the division.
 
The number of Covid-19 cases speedily climbed to 25,507 as 467 more patients were reported after testing 1,155 samples at the positivity rate of 40.43 percent on Monday in the division.
 
Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 42.21 percent positivity rate on Sunday, 37.03 percent on Saturday, 27.01 percent on Friday, 41.74 percent on Thursday, 37.85 percent on Wednesday and 35.95 percent on Tuesday last in the division.
 
The district-wise break up of total 25,507 patients stands at 5,871 in Rangpur, 1,034 in Panchagarh, 1,821 in Nilphamari, 1,444 in Lalmonirhat, 1,740 in Kurigram, 3,187 in Thakurgaon, 8,332 in Dinajpur and 2,078 in Gaibandha of the division.
 
“Meanwhile, seven more patients of Thakurgaon and Dinajpur died on Monday raising the number of casualties to 510 in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.
 
From May 28 to June 28 last, 120 patients died, the highest number of casualties in a month, since the outbreak of the pandemic in the division.
 
The district-wise break up of the 510 fatalities stands at 111 in Rangpur, 182 in Dinajpur, 83 in Thakurgaon, 38 in Nilphamari, 27 in Kurigram, 22 in Panchagarh, 23 in Gaibandha and 24 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.
 
“The average casualty rate currently stands at two percent in the division,” Dr Siddiqui added.
 
Since the beginning, a total of 1,53,428 collected samples were tested till Monday, and of them, 25,507 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 16.62 percent.   
               
Talking to BSS, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 19,693 with recovery of 202 more patients on Monday in the division.
        
“The average recovery rate of Covid-19 infected patients was 97.55 percent three and a half months ago on March 9 last in the division where the same sharply dropped by 20.34 percent to 77.21 percent on Monday,” Dr Islam said.
 
“The 19,693 recovered patients include 5,050 of Rangpur, 831 of Panchagarh, 1,635 of Nilphamari, 1,140 of Lalmonirhat, 1,258 of Kurigram, 1,795 of Thakurgaon, 6,154 of Dinajpur and 1,830 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” he said.
 
Among the 23,798 infected patients, 335 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 24 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 19,693 patients and 510 deaths while 5,220 are remaining in home isolation.
 
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 6,01,512 and among them, 3,88,650 got the second dose of the jab till Monday in the division,” Dr Islam added.
