DHAKA, Sept 15, 2024 (BSS) - Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has demanded arrest of perpetrators of the recent killing in Gopalganj district within next seven days.

“Sheikh Hasina fled the country but her cohorts are still active. They carried out killing in Gopalganj. All those involved in the Gopalganj killing must be arrested by next one week,” he told a discussion at Gono Odhikar Parishad’s office here today.

Nur added: “Being organized, this Gopalganj’s terrorists (earlier) launched attack on army which is shameful incident. If they are not punished, large scale negative incident may happen in future.”

Citing media reports he said among the newly appointed deputy commissioners, 56 were beneficiaries of the past Awami League government. Keeping them in administration, reforms of the country cannot be possible, he added.

Nur said the student-people have brought an opportunity to build the country afresh and it is the duty of the youths to complete their unfinished task for the greater national interest.

Nur, a former DUCSU Vice-President, urged the youth organizations to work for building the country in unison.

Noting that at least 150 youth MPs should be in parliament in future, he said currently a citizen needs to be minimum 25-year-old for taking part in MP election.
He demanded reducing the age limit to 21 years to bring scopes for the youths to become Member of Parliament (MPs).

Gono Odhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan said it is not possible to make state reforms after rehabilitating Awami League.  Awami beneficiaries are getting appointed in different positions after removing other beneficiaries of the party, he alleged.

He demanded inclusion of more people in the advisory council of the interim government as it should have at least 50 members.

Later, Bangladesh Jubo Odhikar Parishad, youth wing of Gono Odhikar Parishad placed a 7-point proposal for lessening unemployment crisis of the country.

Jubo Odhikar Parishad Organizing Secretary Muntajul Islam placed the proposals, which are-
1.All forms of discrimination free employment and jobs should be given constitutional recognition as fundamental right and its implementation should be prioritized. Regular unemployment survey report should be published every year.

2. Priority should be given to formulation and implementation of demand-based and vocational education systems at all levels of education. Effective steps should be taken to make the youth skilled in the ICT sector.

3. All types of jobs should be free of application fee, illegal recommendation, any security money and age limit. All unfair recruitment processes like bribery and corruption should be stopped and discrimination in government and private jobs should be ended.
