DHAKA, Sept 15, 2024 (BSS) – The World Ozone Day will be observed in the country tomorrow as elsewhere across the world with the theme 'Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action’.
On the eve of the day, Chief Adviser (CA) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus gave a message wishing all to make the programs undertaken to celebrate 'World Ozone Day 2024' a success."
He welcomed the initiatives to observe the ‘World Ozone Day’ across the country and greeted all concerned on this occasion.
"The theme of the day 'Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action' is time befitting," he added.
Dr Yunus said the ozone layer of the atmosphere protects humans, animals and plants from various harmful effects by blocking harmful ultra-violet rays emitted from the sun.
Depletion of this very important ozone layer has occurred due to some products used in various activities including air conditioners, refrigerators, aerosol and foam making, he added.
He said the Montreal Protocol has been implemented since 1987 under the Vienna Convention of the United Nations (UN) to stop the use of these substances that deplete the ozone layer.
As a result, the ozone layer has started to rebuild slowly with the combined efforts of all the countries across the globe, he added.
He hoped that this year's ‘World Ozone Day’ will highlight Bangladesh's success in implementing the Montreal Protocol and also play an effective role in raising public awareness to protect the ozone layer and combat climate change.
