RANGPUR, Sept 17, 2024 (BSS) – BNP Standing Committee Member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed today called for holding general elections at the earliest possible time.
"I think the general election should be held quickly, by bringing in state reforms, to help the country move forward," he said at a brief rally on Rangpur Collectorate premises as the chief guest before holding a procession marking the International Democracy Day.
The war is not over yet, he said, adding, democracy will be restored only if people can exercise their voting rights in a free and fair environment.
Narrating the torture of Awami League (AL) government on the BNP leaders and activists in the last 16 years, he said, ”We lived the life of slaves during the AL tenure.”
The student uprising freed the country from dictatorship through many sacrifices and sufferings, he added.
"We should not indulge in any crime or activity so that it tarnishes the image of our party,” said Hafiz Uddin.
BNP Rangpur Divisional Organizing Secretary Asadul Habib Dulu, District BNP Convener Saiful Islam, Joint Convener Anichur Rahman Laku and Metropolitan BNP Convener Samchuzzaman Samu were present, among others, on the occasion.
BNP leaders and workers from eight districts under the division participated in the procession.
The procession ended at Shapla Chatthar in the divisional city after parading DC intersection, Payra Chattar and Jahaj Company.
