DNCC launches weeklong anti-mosquito drive

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2024 (BSS)- Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today launched a weeklong special campaign to control spread of Aedes mosquitoes.

The special programme will continue until September 25.

DNCC's Chief Executive Officer Meer Khairul Alam inaugurated the campaign from Badda area.

DNCC regional executive officers and executive magistrates conducted mass awareness programmes in 10 areas of DNCC.

The drive will cover all DNCC wards simultaneously to raise public awareness on dengue prevention.

DNCC has undertaken the drive in the backdrop of recent uptick in dengue cases, DNCC CEO said.

He said alongside mosquito eradication and routine cleaning activities, the DNCC will prioritize public awareness to control dengue outbreak.

Students from various educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, and madrasas, have joined the DNCC drive.

Mobile courts would be deployed as part of the campaign. Initially, the mobile courts would issue warnings, but legal action will be taken if Aedes larvae are found due to negligence, he added.

DNCC secretary Mohammad Masud Alam Siddique and chief health officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, among others, were present.
