Killers of July’s mass upsurge must be punished: Rizvi

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2024 (BSS) – Senior Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today said that the killers and criminals of July’s mass upsurge must be punished for upholding the spirit of student-people movement.

“The spirit of mass upsurge will fade if the killers of anti-discrimination student movement are not punished,” he said while talking to newsmen after providing financial assistance to the family members at the Mohammadpur residence of Shaheed Mahamudur Rahman Saikat, killed in the student-people movement.

On behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, the financial support was given to the family members of Shaheed Mahamudur Rahman at the initiative of 'Amra BNP Paribar'.

'Amra BNP Paribar' Convener and Journalist Atiqur Rahman Rumon, the organization's advisor Engineer Ashraf Uddin Bakul, Jubo Dal leader Mehbub Masum Shanto and Swechchhasebak Dal central leader Arifur Rahman Tushar were present, among others, on the occasion.

Rizvi said, "There is a word called Yunus's Goodwill. We want to see the reflection of Goodwill of Dr Yunus through ensuring good governance, rule of law and quick arrest of the criminals who committed the brutal mass killings in July," he said.

He said, “Fascist Sheikh Hasina didn’t hesitate to shed the blood of youths and mass people of the country to remain in power," he said.

Rizvi said that the father of Shaheed Mahamudur Rahman Saikat filed a case in connection with the death of his son.

But the police have not yet arrested anyone including the main accused as most of the police officers were accomplices of a corrupt government (Sheikh Hasina's government), he added.

Criticizing the government of Sheikh Hasina, he said former Home Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and Salman F Rahman were spared for their evil activities in its tenure.

“Sheikh Hasina's "brutal dictatorship" destroyed every institution of the country during her decade-and-a-half-long reign,” he said.

Sheikh Hasina established the kingdom of looting through her influential ministers and MPs, he said.

He said that the leaders and workers of Awami League were ready to loot people's money kept in banks and with that money they wanted to go abroad and buy houses in foreign countries.

They did not realize that people were burning inside for rebellion, he added.
