DHAKA, Sept 22, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today said the Interim Government has to take initiatives to hold a good poll, in which people of the country will be able to cast their votes in favour of their favorite candidates.
In this connection, he said the people of the country will remain with the government for its initiatives.
The BNP leader made the remarks while taking part at a discussion and “Doa Mahfil”, organized by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Nagorik Party at Jahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall of Jatiya Press Club here, seeking blessings of the martyrs of Students-People Movement.
Mentioning that a number of students and general people, who sustained injuries during the Students-People Movement, are taking treatment in different hospitals, he urged the government to provide them necessary support for their proper treatment.
Criticizing the past Awami League government, he said the Awami League government was so autocratic that the people had forgotten the independence. During the period, the people had no choice to cast their vote in favour of their favourite candidates during elections.
Apart from this, he said the Awami League leaders had looted public money from every sectors of the country and sent the money abroad,” he added.
Dudu said Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the country's most popular party and the eldest son of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, has supported the interim government to establish voting rights of people through holding a free, fair and neutral election.
Referring to the recent untoward incidents in Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) and even in the national mosque Baitul Mukarram, Dudu said these are very reprehensible and alarming. He urged the government to remain alert against the conspiracies.
Chaired by President of the Organization Syed Mohammad Omar Faruk, BNP Executive Committee Members- Md. Rahmatullah, Dr. Khandaker Maruf Hossain and Mainul Islam- Jagpa Vice-President Rashed Pradhan and Krishak Dal Deputy General Secretary M Jahangir Alam spoke on the occasion, among others.
