DHAKA, Sept 23, 2024 (BSS) - Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has unearthed the mystery surrounding the murder of Notre Dame College office assistant Lipika Gomez and arrested two killers.
"Lipika, 45, used to live alone in a flat in the capital's Sutrapur Rishikesh Das Lane area. She was found murdered on September 11 in her flat as two of her colleagues were sent to enquire about her wellbeing as she remained absent at the office on the day. Police found her body on the bed, with wounds on her head," DIG (west zone) Md Sayedur Rahman told newsmen at a press briefing at PBI headquarters here in the capital today.
A team of PBI Dhaka Metro (North) led by additional superintendent of police Sharif Mohammad Farukuzzaman started shadow probe into the killing and ultimately managed to arrest two killers Jewel, 22, and Nazrul, 22, on September 22.
The two arrestees already confessed their crimes in the primary interrogation and different valuables stole from Lipika's flat were recovered from their possessions, the PBI official said.
The two killers, who used to live beside Lipika's building, said they knew Lipika used to live alone in her flat and thought they would be able to make fortune by robbing her.
"They broke into her flat at around 1 am on September 11 and started looting the house as Lipika was in deep sleep. At one point as Lipika awaked and started making sounds, Nazrul hit her with an Iron rod and Jewel strangled her with a pillow. After confirming her death, the two killers ran away with Lipika's two mobile phones and handbag with Taka 26,350 inside," DIG Md Sayedur Rahman added.
PBI Dhaka Metro (North) unit in-charge additional DIG Md Jahangir Alam, superintendent of police Md Abu Eusuf and additional superintendent of police Sharif Mohammad Farukuzzaman were present at the briefing, among others.
