Army officer stabbed to death during joint forces' operation in Cox's Bazar

DHAKA, Sept 24, 2024 (BSS) - An army officer was stabbed to death during an operation of joint forces in Dulahazara area of Chakaria upazila under Cox’s Bazar district.

The deceased Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar Nirjan, 23, was part of the 39 ST Battalion, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release on Tuesday.

A team of the Bangladesh army was responding to intelligence reports of robbery going on in Purba Maizpara village under Dulhazra union, the statement said. 

At around 4am, when a group of seven or eight robbers, sensing the presence of the army patrol, tried to escape, Lt Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon chased them. 

Then, the robbers swooped on Tanjim and stabbed him in the neck, severely injuring him and leading to tremendous blood loss, the ISPRE statement reads. 

He was immediately rescued and taken to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.

ISPR also informed that three robbers with one locally-made firearm and six rounds of ammunition were arrested from the spot. 

Lt Tanjim Sarwar Nirjon, who hailed from Tangail, was posted at Ramu Cantonment in Cox's Bazar. 
 
He left behind his parents, sister and host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
