Journalists, well-wishers pay last respect to journo Gazi at JPC

DHAKA, Sept 25, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President and Dainik Sangram chief reporter Ruhul Amin Gazi's first Namaz-e-Janaza was held after Zuhr prayers on the premises of Jatiya Press club (JPC) here.

Journalists, family members and hundreds of well-wishers paid their last respect to veteran journalist Gazi at JPC.

They paid their last tribute as the body of Gazi was brought here around 11:30 am. They placed floral wreaths at his coffin and offered his first Namaz-e-Janaza held on the club premises.

Ruhul Amin Gazi breathed his last yesterday at 72. He has been undergoing treatment at the ICU of BRB Hospital since Monday. He left behind his wife, two daughters, a son, relatives, colleagues, a host of well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

He will be buried at his family graveyard in Chandpur District after third Janaza there. His second janaza was held at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Ruhul Amin Gazi has been suffering from various ailments including kidney disease and diabetes for long. He had been in jail for over 17 months during the fascist Awami League regime, resulting various ailments in his body.
 
Ruhul Amin Gazi was born in an aristocratic Muslim family at Gobindia in Chandpur sadar upazila. His father was Moulvi Kafil Uddin and mother Ayesha Khatun.

He has been serving as the president of BFUJ for the fourth term. Earlier, the veteran journalist also served as the secretary general of the BFUJ, president and general secretary of DUJ.

He played a vital role in forming and implementing the journalists' wage-board and contributed a lot to realize the rights of journalists.

In his speech, Adviser Nahid Islam said Ruhul Amin Gazi was a well-known in journalism arena. He played an active role for the welfare of journalists, he added.

The interim government, he said, has started to build a new Bangladesh after student-people upsurge. In such a situation, the leader like Gazi was very much needed to build a new Bangladesh, he added.

He urged the journalist community to follow the path showed by Gazi.
