Govt. preparing policy for preserving archeological sites: Asif Nazrul 

MUNSHIGANJ, Sept 27, 2024 (BSS)- Adviser of the Interim Government on the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Prof Dr Asif Nazrul has said the government is preparing a policy for preservation of the country’s archeological sites. 

The advisor, also in charge of the ministries of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, said this during a visit to the Idrakpur Fort here today.

Asif Nazrul said, Bangladesh’s archeological sites are very rich and the government is looking to the necessities of preserving those heritages.

“Time has come to give attention for preserving the archeological sites and policy guideline in this regard is being prepared,” he said adding that it’s not possible to frame appropriate policy without visiting these sites. 

Noting that there have many archeological sites and objects in Munshigonj, Asif Nazrul said, the government is trying to enlist the Idrakpur Fort in Munshiganj, Lalbagh Fort in Dhaka and Hazigonj and Sonakanda Forts in Narayanganj as the world heritages.

In view of this, he said, steps are being taken for evacuating the illegally occupied sites. 

The adviser also visited Baba Adam Masjid in Rampal, Sonarang Jora Temple in Tongibari Upazila, Homestead of Atish Dipankar Pandit in Bajrozogini, Raja Harish Chandra Dighi in Munshiganj and home of Scientist Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose in Srinagar.
