Speakers for immediate formation of education reform commission

DHAKA, Sept 29, 2024 (BSS) – Speakers at a dialogue today stressed that it is important to immediately form an education reform commission to reform the country’s education system.

A national dialogue titled "Present and Future of Bangladesh's Education System" was held yesterday at Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club with the aim of reforming Bangladesh's education system, education policy and education curriculum, said a press release here today.

Bangladesh Chatrakallyan Trust (BCKT) organized the national dialogue with member of its advisory board and former Vice-Chancellor of Patuakhali Science and Technology University Professor Dr Abdul Latif Masum in the chair.

Barrister Mahabub Uddin Khokon, President of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association and Vice Chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was present as chief discussant at the dialogue.

He said that the fascist and autocratic Awami League government has destroyed country’s all institutions, including the education and judicial system, in the last 16 years.

"On August 5, with the united efforts of all under the leadership of the student society, we were able to get rid the country of fascism by ousting the dictatorial Awami League," he added.

So, now it is time to build the beloved country according to the people’s choice, he said.

Since the government has constituted six reform commissions, it is necessary to form an education reform commission without delay, he said.

Mahabub said, “As far as I know, Bangladesh Chatrakallyan Trust has been working on improving the quality of education and education system of the country for the last 24 years. Therefore, the representative of Bangladesh Chhatra Kalyan Trust should also be included in this commission."

BCKT executive director and its principal Nure Alam Talukdar said the current interim government has formed six commissions after coming to power but it is a matter of great sadness that the education reform commission has not been formed till date.

He said reformation of the education system is very important if the nation wants to stand for long and suggested formation of an education reform commission comprising all stakeholders without delay.
