Rupnagar thana AL vice-president Gafur held with firearm in capital  

DHAKA, Oct 3, 2024 (BSS) – Police arrested an Awami League (AL) leader along with a firearm and ammunition from the capital’s Rupnagar area allegedly for attacking the student-people movement.   

The arrestee was identified as Rupnagar thana Awami League vice president Gafur Mollah. 

Acting on a tip off, police arrested Gafur from his Rupnagar residence at 3.30am today, said a police press release.
 
Police seized a short-gun, eight rounds of bullet and a cartridge from his possession. 

Leaders and activist of AL and its associate bodies carried out attack on the Ant-discrimination Student Movement at Proshika Intersection in Mirpur-10 on July 20, in which, one Shamim Hawlader suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Police arrested Gafur Mollah after confirmed of his involvement in the attack through scrutinizing video footages of the place of occurrence and its adjoining areas. 

The victim’s cousin Samrat Hawlader filed a murder case with Rupnagar Police Station in this connection.
