DHAKA, Oct 4, 2024 (BSS) - A daylong poetry event reminiscing anti-fascist movement was held in Mymensingh, where discussants said no other revolution witnessed such a big number of killings of children, women and students like July uprising in the country.
A group of poets and cultural personalities joined the event and discussed on a compilation of poetry titled "Aboruddha Somoyer Kobita" at the Mymensingh City Corporation Auditorium, said a press release here.
Poet and lyricist Shahidullah Faraji said, "A numerous number of children, women and students were killed in the mass-uprising and no other revolution in the world has witnessed such killings".
But, many of the Awami League supporters don't acknowledge the genocide, he said, adding that Sheikh Hasina didn't express any shock as she gave order to kill people.
Poet and media personality Sayantha Sakhawat said that a breathing atmosphere has been created in the country through the outer of fascism.
He urged poets, writers, journalists and professionals, along with students and politicians to remain alert so that fascism couldn't take rebirth.
"The fallen fascist who committed genocide and fled the country, have no right to do politics in the country," he added.
Poet and thinker Anup Sadi said poets and writers should be vocal against the oppression and fascism.
Poet Shamsham Tajil said that he was with the poetry of the "time of confinement" from the beginning and Ehsan Habib termed it as time of confinement in that period.
Ehsan Habib, editor of the "Aboruddha Somoyer Kobita" said they observed with deep concern that the allies of fascism have been rehabilitated in Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
He demanded immediate cancellation of appointment of the newly appointed Director and Director General of Shilpakala Academy.
Mentioning that Awami cohorts are still being posted in various places in the administration, he said, Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner Ummey Salma Tanzia is a key player of the midnight election and demanded her immediate removal.
Poet Samya Shah demanded resignation of the advisers who are rehabilitating the supporters of fascism in the art and literature arena.
"These recruitments must be stopped, otherwise we will call for a larger movement of anti-fascist poets, artists and writers," he added.
Sayeed Islam said that it is very important to establish a translation foundation.
Poet and thinker Enamul Haque Palash said that he has been posted to a remote place as being a government service holder as he issued an anti-government statement during the Awami League regime.
Poet Sayed Jamil extended his gratitude to Kafi Kamal and Ehsan Habib for presenting an actual testimonial of fascism when no one dared to speak out.
Poet Sanwar Russell said that he was transferred to Matsya Bhavan in Dhaka but, being a supporter of the mass uprising, he was transferred from Dhaka to Netrakona after three days. "This is the result of our mass uprising. The revolution cannot be allowed to languish", he added.

Rashed Shahriar, Shafiq Sai, Ahmed Ishaq, Milu Hasan, Waheed Rokan, Naqeeb Mukshi, Saleheen Shipra, Raees Mukul, Taj Islam, Rahman Majid, Tariq Fizar, Labib Wahid, Russell Mia, Aqib Shikder, Dipu Rahman, Sajjad Hossain, Tanjid Ahmed, Rubel Mia, Sajib Akand, Ferdousul Monira Labani, Arafat Rickle, SM Raihan, Tauhiduzzaman and many others also joined the event.
