Two AL, Jubo League leaders land in jail over Emon killing

DHAKA, Oct 6, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today sent two leaders of Awami League (AL) and Jubo League to jail in a case filed over the killing of Emon in firing during the anti-discrimination student movement.

The two accused are - Pallabi's ward no 2 unit AL general secretary Md Akbar Hossain Jony and ward no 3 unit Jubo League leader Mohammad Dwin Islam.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to keep them behind the bars till the end of probe. The defence, however, pleaded to allow them bail in the case.

Being tipped-off, police arrested the duo from the city's Pallabi area on Saturday (October 5) night.

Emon Hossain Akash took part in the anti-discrimination student movement in front of Popular Diagonistic Centre at Mipur 10 on August 4 last. Leaders and activists of the AL and its associate bodies allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the protesters in which Emon suffered critical bullet wounds.

Emon was rushed to local Azmal Hospital where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead.

The case was lodged with Pallabi Police Station on August 27.
