DHAKA, Oct 7, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed former environment forest and climate change minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury on five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of BNP activist Mokbul in 2022.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order as police produced Saber, also the former lawmaker from Dhaka-9 constituency, before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.
Detective branch (DB) of police arrested Saber Hossain Chowdhury from the city’s Gulshan area around 7 pm on October 6.
According to the case documents, BNP leaders and activists as part of their party program on December 10, 2022, began to gather in the capital, police and AL men created ruckus in front of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan on December 7. They entered the BNP office and charged baton and opened fire at the BNP party men, injuring Mokbul critically.
Mokbul later died of his injuries at the hospital. The case was filed on September 30, 2024.
