Indian truck driver held with smuggled Hilsa at C'nabganj border 

DHAKA, Oct 07, 2024 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today detained an Indian truck driver with 17.600kgs of hilsa fish being smuggled to India through Sonamsjid frontier of Chapainawabganj.

"Based on information, on the eve of departure of one Indian empty truck from Bangladesh to India, the BGB members searched the truck around 9:40 am and recovered 17.600kgs of hilsa fish stuffed in a box," said a press release signed by BGB Mahananda Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Golam Kibria this afternoon.

Indian truck driver was Alok Mondal, 22, an inhabitant of Kanchanta Tiakathi village under English Bazar police station of Malda district in India,

The BGB said the seizure value of hilsa fish and the truck is worth about Taka 7,035,200.

The detainee along with the truck and fish was handed over to Shibganj police station for legal action, the release added.
