TANGAIL, Oct 7, 2024 (BSS)- Urging to build a country free from all discrimination, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar has said there should not have any minority or majority issue as all citizens of Bangladesh are living in the country as members of a same family.
"We are like members of a same family living in Bangladesh and there is no discrimination among us for our religious identity,” she said.
“Let’s celebrate this year’s Durga Puja befitting to a new Bangladesh,” she told a discussion on Durga Puja at Tangail District Commissioner's (DC) office here today.
Calling for increasing a social awareness among people, Farida Akhtar said, "It’s not acceptable that we will celebrate holy Eid amid amusement but Durga Puja in fear. Why should we be afraid during Puja ?,” she questioned.
The adviser also put emphasis on creating a social environment so that everyone can enjoy all festivals together.
Referring to the recent students-people’s anti-discrimination revolution, she said the agitation was fueled by long-standing discrimination, deprivation and pent-up anger of people, resulting in outburst of public annoyance and dislodging the rulers through supreme sacrifice.
Farida Akhter said the Interim Government which has been formed as a result of the mass movement has taken its all tasks as its responsibility to the nation.
Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony where Muslims go to see the Puja and members of Hindu community enjoy celebration of Eid, the adviser said.
She expressed her satisfaction over the preparation for the local administration and law enforcing agencies along with the armed forces, jointly working to ensure a congenial atmosphere for celebrating the Durga Puja.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharifa Haque, Police Super Md Saiful Islam Santu, President of District Puja Celebration Committee Chitto Ranjan Sarker and representatives and senior officials were present.
Later, the adviser visited various Puja Mandapas of Delduar Upazila.
