‘Memorial Plaque’ for Abrar Fahad inaugurated at BUET

DHAKA, Oct 7, 2024 (BSS)- Authorities of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have laid the foundation stone of a memorial plaque on the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall premises in memory of its slain student Abrar Fahad.

BUET Vice Chancellor Dr ABM Badruzzaman today inaugurated the work of the memorial plaque remembering Abrar Fahad who was beaten to death by a group of Chhatra League leaders in 2019.

Addressing the occasion BUET VC apologized to the Abrar’s family for failing to protect their son.

“We have to take lessons from the death of Abrar so that such incidents cannot happen again in any educational institution.”

Amid the students' demand, the BUET authorities decided to construct a memorial plaque and thus formed a committee to make a design.

However, after the design is finalized, construction of the memorial plaque began with the financial support of Sher-e-Bangla Hall alumni association which is expected to complete by December this year.

Director of Student Welfare, BUET registrar, deans of faculties, provosts of halls, chief of offices, executive members of Sher-e-Bangla Hall Alumni Association and students were present on the occasion.

Abrar was a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university.
