DHAKA, Oct 08, 2024 (BSS) - The government has issued a notification extending holiday for one more day on the Durga Puja, the largest religious festival of the Hindu community, to facilitate their smooth celebration.
"The government declared the nationwide public holiday on October 10 through an executive order in light of the upcoming Durga Puja," said a gazette notification issued here today by the public administration ministry.
The notification specifies that during the public holiday, all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices will remain closed.
However, the emergency services like electricity, water, gas and other fuels, fire services, ports operations, cleaning activities, telephone and internet and postal services will be in operation.
The vehicles and employees of emergency services will also be on duty.
Physicians and employees related to medical service and emergency service will be out of the holiday. Officers associated with emergency services will also be out of the holiday, read the notification.
Bangladesh bank will provide necessary instruction to run the banking activities while Bangladesh Supreme Court will give instructions to run court activities.
So, this year the Hindu community people get a total of four-day holidays including weekends to celebrate the Durga Puja.
Earlier, in the morning at a press briefing at Dhakeswari National Temple here, Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Mahfuj Alam said the government will extend holiday for one more day on the Durga Puja to facilitate them for its smooth celebration,
Speaking at the briefing, Mahfuj said the government will provide assistance to the victim families of the Hindu community from the Chief Adviser' Relief and Welfare Fund.
The special assistant said the assistance will be provided to them within a day or two so that they can celebrate the Durga Puja in a festive mood.
