DHAKA, Oct 8, 2024 - (BSS) - A total of 67 members of Bangladesh Navy left here today to join "Bangladesh Navy's Force Marine Unit-10" in UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
The Navy contingent left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HISA) for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMIS), which will replace "Bangladesh Force Marine Unit-9", said a release of Inter-Services of Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.
In line with the UN instructions, the naval force marine unit is deployed in South Sudan to establish world peace, ensure the safe movement of barges carrying essential fuel, food, medicine and humanitarian aids in remote areas of Sudan, monitor and contain maritime piracy, provide assistance to local people in firefighting and rescue, emergency medical care for injured military personnel and civilian and carry out rescue operations, it said.
Since the last two decades, the navy members have been carrying out their assigned duties with great sincerity, dedication and efficiency in establishing peace in various war-torn regions of the world, the release added.
