DHAKA, Oct 08, 2024 (BSS) – BNP’s Relief and Rehabilitation Committee Convener and Standing Committee Member of the party Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku today said that they would carry out post-flood rehabilitation works, assessing the damages caused to general people across the country including Sherpur.
“BNP will not only distribute relief during the floods rather we will stand beside the affected people in the post-flood condition,” he said while distributing relief materials among the affected families in Sherpur district, a party statement said here.
Tuku, who visited Sherpur to witness the field-level relief distribution works as a Central Coordinator of BNP said, “Our party will take steps to rehabilitate the affected people especially those whose houses were washed away by on rush of water from upstream”.
Following instruction of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, he said that the party was sending cash and others relief item to the affected areas.
About compensation to farmers, he said that seeds, agricultural inputs and fertilizer will be distributed when robi crop season comes after receding flood water so that the affected farmers can overcome their losses.
Mentioning that their relief programme will be continued, Tuku said, “No one in the country will remain hungry...Our party (BNP) will stand by them.”
Participating in the relief distribution programme, BNP standing committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said that they came to stand by the people, who were hit hard by the flash flood in Sherpur.
“We will rehabilitate them considering the damage in the post-flood period,” he said, vowing to continue relief program as long as it is required in this area.
BNP’s Mymensingh Divisional Organizing Secretary Shariful Alam and District BNP General Secretary Hazrat Ali also spoke on the occasion with Sherpur district BNP President Mahmudul Huq Rubel in the chair.
