DHAKA, Oct 9, 2024 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter has said antibiotics use must be restricted for the animal aimed at ensuring safe food supply for the people.
"Human foods are closely related with the animals", she told a view-exchange meeting with poultry, livestock and fisheries growers of Delduar upazila under Tangail district on Tuesday.
All the foods whatever the people consume like vegetables, fruits, fish and meat are being contaminated due to uses of antibiotic, she said.
The adviser called for raising social awareness among farmers to this end, saying the growers must have to give importance on producing poultry feed by their own rather than buying the company products.
The fisheries and livestock department will cooperate with the growers in this regard, she added.
As the farmers informed her about the price hike of poultry feed and day old chicks, the adviser said every farmer should be an independent one, not to become a contract farmer.
Farida mentioned that the feed producing companies are doing monopoly business due to the contract farming, while the real farmers are becoming looser.
The adviser said the poultry industries are contributing a lot to women entrepreneurship creation in the country and it helps women to become self-reliant.
Chaired by Delduar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mostafa Abdullah Al Noor, the programme also attended, among others, by Tangail district livestock office (DLO) Dr M Mostafizur Rahman, District Fisheries Officer (DFO) M Abul Kalam Azad, Upazila Livestock Officer (ULO) Dr Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer M Tariqul Islam, govt-non government officials and scores of livestock and fisheries growers.
