DHAKA, Oct 09, 2024(BSS) - A court here today imposed travel ban on Shibly Rubayetul Islam, Ashraful Alam Khokon and his wife, Akhteruzzaman Babu and his wife for their alleged involvement in corruption.
The Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain imposed the bans following three separate petitions by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC in separate petitions prayed for imposing ban on Shibly Rubayetul Islam, former Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission, Ashraful Alam Khokon, former Deputy Press Secretary (DPS) to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and his wife Rezwan Nur and Akhteruzzaman Babu, former lawmaker of Khulna-6 constituency and his wife Sharmin Akhter.
The court after hearing the arguments of the prosecution side imposed the ban on those persons for their alleged involvement in acquiring illegal wealth by taking bribe, corruption and various irregularities.
The ACC in the petitions of Shibly and Babu said that they have grabbed government money by using undue powers in the name of business. So that, travel ban should be imposed against them as the anti-graft body has been investigating their corruption.
In the petition against Khokon, the ACC said they have been investigating a number of corruption allegations and money laundering cases against him so that travel ban should imposed against him.
