DU observes mental health day

 
DHAKA, Oct 10, 2024 (BSS) – The World Mental Health Day was observed today at Dhaka University (DU) through different programmes with the theme ‘It is time to prioritise mental health in workplace’.
 
Marking the day, DU educational and counseling psychology department, and students counseling and guidance service office jointly arranged different programmes including setting up stalls in front of Teacher-Student Center (TSC) to provide free counseling over mental diseases to the people.
 
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the day-long programme in front of the university's Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) in the morning.
 
DU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha and Treasurer Prof Dr Zahangir Alam Chowdhury were also present on the occasion, chaired by students counseling and guidance service office director Mahjabeen Haque.
 
Prof Niaz said many students have been through emotional trauma due to the recent situation of the country and thus, it is very important to ensure mental health services for them.
 
The University's Office of Student Guidance and Counseling has been providing free mental health services to university faculty, students, officers and staff throughout the year despite limited resources.
 
Their counseling services for fresher students should be appreciated, the VC said emphasizing on further expansion and strengthening of the services.
 
Later, the VC visited the various stalls set up on the TSC premises marking the day.
